ISO 27001:2022 is the latest version of the Information Security Management System (ISMS) standard, designed to help organizations systematically manage and protect their information assets. It follows a risk-based approach, requiring organizations to assess security threats, implement appropriate controls, and ensure continuous improvement. The core clauses (4–10) provide a structured framework covering organizational context, leadership responsibilities, risk assessment, operational controls, performance evaluation, and continual enhancement of the ISMS. While the fundamental principles of ISO 27001 remain intact, the 2022 revision refines requirements, strengthens governance, and aligns better with modern cybersecurity challenges, including cloud security, privacy regulations, and supply chain risks. This version also emphasizes leadership involvement, integration with business objectives, and adaptability to evolving threats.
Annex A of ISO 27001:2022 is based on ISO 27002:2022 and contains a set of 93 security controls, categorized into four domains: organizational, people, physical, and technological. Compared to the previous version, the number of controls has been reduced through consolidation, and 11 new controls have been introduced, including threat intelligence, data leakage prevention, web filtering, and secure coding. These controls help organizations implement security best practices and mitigate information security risks.
